Russellville Middle School is located in the city of Russellville, Arkansas. Russellville is nestled in the heart of Arkansas River Valley between the Ozarks and the Ouachita Mountains. Russellville is approximately 77 miles west of Little Rock, and skirted by Interstate 40 to the north and the Arkansas River to the south of the city. Russellville offers an enriched quality of life and is a thriving community. It is home to Arkansas Tech University, Arkansas Nuclear One, and Lake Dardanelle State Park. Russellville enjoys fresh new businesses and long established industries as well as many unique shops. Russellville is a small rural city with a population of approximately 27,602 a 16.6% growth since the 2000. The 2007 the per capita income is $19,207, slightly below the state average of $20,708.
Russellville Middle School (RMS) was established in 1971 and was originally housed in the old high school building. Beginning with 1994-1995 school year the to present day RMS is in the Middle Grades Complex with the fifth grade as a separate school. RMS is in the west wing of the building; grades six and seven make up the middle school. The school has had five principals during the past 38 years. Each principal has directed the school toward high learning standards. The faculty and staff are a close knit group who work together to create a pleasant and structured -learning environment for all students.
Students are encouraged to strive for not only high academic goals, but also to perform at their best in art, music, physical education and athletics. The population of RMS includes approximately 811 students with 54% on free/reduced lunch. Caucasian students make up 77% of the school population with 16.4 % African American, .06 % Asian, 14.5 % Latino/Hispanic and .0075 % Native American. Special groups at RMS include 8.5 % ESL, 10 % special education, and 16.5 % gifted students.
RMS has an active PTO who supports the school with a yearly fundraiser. Money earned through the fundraiser helps to purchase needed equipment and provide for special events, special academic awards for students, and provide money for each teacher to use for their classroom. Parents are encouraged to be part of the school. They assist with field day, picture day, and other events that take place during the school. |
